  1. It might be language based. I used some nasty words as an example.

Can the board software send a response like

“This post is being held for approval by board admins” when something gets queued? That would reduce the multiple message posting.

  2. Savoy:

You’re obviously bright, well-read and capable of writing interesting things. Why then are you make such cutting, angry, hateful comments? Why post some interesting arguments, and then completely discredit them with personal attack? ? Isn’t your goal to try to make people see the validity of your arguments, and perhaps change their own opinions? How likely is that if you insult, berate, and embarrass the people that you’re trying to convince? What gives?

  3. I’m not out to change minds. I’m out to beat the crap out of the opposition. I find that, politically, most people’s minds are frozen in amber. I’m just as stubborn. Do you really think there is anything you could say that would ever convince me to vote for a republican? That parables about Wise Children Who Understand Supply Side Jesus will convince me of the error of my ways? Because, why? The language is polite, even if the argument is not valid?

    No, there is not.

So what are we left with? Social and political commentary as performance art. Politics, often, as performance art. I’m not alone, either, and there is a rich tradition of angry people who use words to pound away at hypocrisy. So, yeah, I have a lot of anger over how this country has been driven straight into the ground.

I’m not always like this. But then, um, doodie-heads do that to me.

  4. However, having said all that:

I do apologize to the regulars I have personally insulted. I have bigger fish to fry and often other people get in the line of fire. Also, H doesn’t need the aggravation.

  5. helen, I have my own server side version of WorldPress like you do. Check “Settings” -> “Discussions”. “Before a comment appears” -> UNCHECK 1’st option “An administrator must always approve the comment” and leave the other two selected.

Henceforth “A new registered poster only needs to be “Approved” once!

  6. “I’m not out to change minds. I’m out to beat the crap out of the opposition.”

That’s exactly how the Christian conservative right feels about trans people. They view trans people as child molesters, promiscuous sex workers that spread AIDS, and freaks of nature that are out to corrupt their children into evil. They don’t want to listen to opposing viewpoints either, because they’ve already made up their minds. Anyone saying anything different must be destroyed.

There’s something more troubling though. As someone who is privy to trans issues, you know what it’s like to be discriminated against based on something that you didn’t choose. You know what it’s like to be fired from jobs, denied housing, and even physically attacked because you didn’t fit into the norm. Despite this understanding, you’re willing to do the same thing to conservatives because they are different than you. This means that you don’t have a problem with discrimination, violence and emotional abuse, as long as it is directed to someone other than you. How is this making the world into a better place?

  7. I think you’re confusing discrimination with judgment.

And no, I don’t have a problem directing that fire at people who disagree with me politically. Equating this with discrimination (“heavens, they’ll take away the right for a conservative to get married!”) is beneath *your* displayed intelligence and is, frankly, fucking stupid.
