I agree with the Mayor’s stance.
I am a lesbian and fully support equal marriage. I think what happened in California was an absolute disgrace. But I just don’t care who gives the invocation at Barack Obama’s inauguration. This is such a non-issue, or would be if people were not trying to make it one.
I don’t know why Obama chose Warren, but I have not lost trust in him. During the course of his time in office, will he do things I don’t like? Of course he will. Am I going to turn on him whenever I feel slighted? No, I will not.
As for the HRC, I think they know a lot about tossing a group under the bus.
I’m liking Mayor Newsome on this one better than Rachel Maddow. “Give the President-elect the benefit of the doubt.” I’m up for that.
I have to say I agree with you, Veronique, & I agree with Newsome.
The point that I liked that Maddow was making was that only if we are big enough & loud enough would this get dropped, & honestly, we aren’t.
But like everyone else I am so tired of these guys being given any audience whatsoever, but what they have – that we do not – is the people who write letters, all the time, who vote locally & nationally, & sheer fucking numbers. Which is why they get the airtime, & why we continue having to deal with them, politically.
I don’t think it’s as big of an issue as it is being made to be either, but I still find it a little… off. I have to question him on his choice of someone that likens gay marriage to pedophilia and incest, and believes homosexuals can be cured. Just like Helen said, someone like Warren does not deserve an audience, certainly not a national one. Obama could have found someone who doesn’t think such deplorable things and so I have to ask – why didn’t he?
