When: Friday, October 19th at 3:30 PM Eastern Time
Who Should Join: Transgender people and allies interested in helping to re-elect the President. This is an organizing call closed to bloggers and press.
Mayor Cory Booker is the outspoken and committed mayor of Newark, NJ and its third black mayor. He was invited by President Obama to head the White House’s Office of Urban Affairs but could not due to his commitment to Newark. He has spoken, in the documentary Miss Representation, about the portrayals of female politicians in the mass media. He insisted that marriage equality will be the law in the state of New Jersey and advocated for LGBTQ rights at the most recent DNC.
Dr. Marci Bowers is one of the transgender community’s eminent surgeons and advocates. She’s often referred to as the “rock star” of transgender surgery and has been on everything from The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Tyra Banks Show to a CSI episode which focused on transsexuality. She has also been featured in many documentaries about transgender life and issues.
Kylar Broadus is the first trans person to testify before the US Senate, and he did so in support of ENDA. He spoke from his own personal experience with discrimination as a trans person. He also founded TPOCC (The Trans People of Color Coalition) and was one of the fourteen delegates at this year’s DNC.
