I attended the memorial for Bryn. It was moving with probably. 400 or 500 people in attendance. People around me were weeping openly. Bryn had an affect on many people. I met her two days before she passed. I’m still sad today. It’s odd to I met Bryn just once and I can’t remember the last time I was grieving like this.
I didn’t know Bryn. But I did know a transwoman here where I live. I never spoke to her, but saw her around. I wanted to speak to her, to let her know she was important, that her life meant something. But I didn’t because I was chicken shit. When I learned (from a friend of hers) that she killed herself, I felt partly responsible. Even today I wonder if, had I acknowledged her, would she still be here today. I try to do my best (without coming off as a creep or embarrassing them) to acknowledge transwomen I see (I see a lot) in hopes that even a kind word of mine may create a different trajectory for a stranger.
